PS5 Pro – Release date, price, specs, design. Check out what we already know

Check out what we know about the successor to the PlayStation 5 – the PS5 Pro.

Although many gamers have not yet managed to buy the latest Sony console – PlayStation 5 , more and more devices from the Japanese manufacturer are mentioned behind the scenes in the industry. It wouldn’t come as a big surprise to anyone that the PlayStation 5 Slim and PS5 Pro were involved . This time we decided to collect all the information about the most powerful variant of Sony ‘s 9th generation console family .

PS5 Pro – Specifications and Features

The PlayStation 5 available in the market is one of the most powerful gaming consoles in the market . The device specifications are as follows:

  • CPU : Octa-core, 3.5GHz (variable frequency), modified Zen 2 architecture
  • GPU: 10.28 TFLOPS, 36 CU (2.23 GHz, variable frequency), modified RDNA 2 architecture
  • RAM: 16 GB GDDR6 / 256-bit
  • Memory bandwidth: 448 GB/sec
  • Internal memory: 825 GB SSD drive
  • I/O Transfer Rate (Input/Output): 5.5 GB/s (raw), 8-9 GB/s (compressed)
  • Expandable Memory: SSD (NVMe)
  • External Memory: Support HDD via USB
  • Optical disc: 4K UHD Blu-Ray

The PlayStation 5 Pro will of course have better components , or better exactly? Moore’s Law is Dead editors say they’ve found that the PS5 Pro will provide an even greater technological leap over the PS5 than it did with the PS4 and PS4 Pro . What does this mean for us? The PlayStation 4 has 8GB of GDDR5 memory and a 1.84 teraflops (TFLOPS) chip. The PS4 Pro was about 2.3 times more powerful, which translates to a computing power of 4.2 TFLOPS, while maintaining the same amount of RAM. So if we assume that the jump between the PS5 and PS5 Pro will be only a little bit bigger (say 2.5 times), we will be able to count on a GPU with a power of more than 25 TFLOPS ! At the moment, it is difficult to imagine what game developers can do with such equipment.

gaming performance

The current PlayStation 5 is capable of displaying games in 4K quality at 60 frames per second, although this is not always in 4K. We can also play select productions at 120fps, but we have to take into account that the maximum resolution will be 1920 x 1080 pixels (FullHD). What can the extra power of the PS5 Pro allow? Native 4K and 60fps gameplay will become the standard for any production. It is also possible to run more and more games in 4K and 120 frames per second . Full support for ray tracing will also appear more frequently . But what about 8K resolution?

In theory, the PS5 is already capable of handling 8K resolution , including thanks to HDMI 2.1. Unfortunately, despite the appropriate inscription on the chest with the console, playing with this quality is currently impossible. Sony programmatically prohibits the use of 8K. However, you can not regret the Japanese product, because there are currently not many games available in this resolution. In fact, the first game appeared on PlayStation 5 only in October 2021, which was developed in 8K quality and at 60 frames per second . Touryst, because we’re talking about it, is an indie action game from Shin’en Multimedia studio.

However, the PS5 Pro’s increased performance may make 8K games pop up more frequently. Especially since the debut of the console will likely take several years. Then, not only games, but also compatible TVs, there will be a lot on the market.

Appearance and design

In terms of design, the PlayStation 5 Pro will likely not differ radically from what Sony’s 9th generation equipment currently offers. Therefore, we can expect that we will again receive very large devices of unusual shapes. According to concept material created by Jermaine Smit (aka Concept Creator ) in collaboration with LetsGoDigital, the PS5 Pro will offer us slightly more streamlined shapes and two color variants initially – black and white. You can see exactly what the console looks like while working on the Concept Creator material .

PlayStation 5 Pro – Release Date

When can we expect the PlayStation 5 Enhanced Edition premiere? There is no shortage of information on this topic, although it is often contradictory. The more optimistic variant assumes that the PS5 Pro will go on sale in 2023 , three years after the PS5 premiere. It’s worth noting that the PlayStation 4 and PS4 Pro versions were in exactly the same time period. Unfortunately, in the case of Sony ‘s latest console , implementing such a plan can be very difficult.

First of all, the COVID-19 pandemic, which has been rampant since the beginning of 2020, significantly affected the activities of the Japanese manufacturer and its individual divisions. Moreover, there has been a shortage of semiconductors on the market for several months , which are used, for example, in the production of keyboards. For this reason, it is still very difficult to buy a PlayStation 5 (one year after the first show). Supplies the new generation of consoles. This means that releasing a new version of the console in 2023 may simply be unprofitable for Sony . The PS5 Pro release date is likely to be 2024.

PS5 Pro – Price

There are more and more indications that the Japanese manufacturer will not want to cut corners in the case of the PlayStation 5 Pro. The new device offers us a quantum leap in performance and an unparalleled experience. Unfortunately, we will have to pay a lot for all this. According to speculation so far, PS5 Pro prices will start at 600 Euro . This means that the price of the console in Poland will be about 2800 PLN, and most likely the manufacturer will set it at PLN 2899 or PLN 2999. It’s worth noting here that on the day of the premiere, the suggested price for the PlayStation 5 was PLN 2299 (for the version with a Blu-ray drive). Thus, the increase in PS5 Pro power will also equate to a significant price increase.

Will PS5 Pro get the digital version?

As we already know, Sony decided to release two PS5 models at the beginning of the ninth generation of consoles. They are: PS5 Standard Edition and PS5 Digital Edition. These consoles differ in only two details – the price and the presence of a Blu-ray drive. People who decide to buy a cheaper model, in the form of PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, can only purchase and install games for digital distribution. So you may be wondering if Sony would want to repeat the same procedure in the case of the PS5 Pro.

The console version itself was practical in two variants kind of experiment. Unfortunately, as the data so far shows, it has not been very successful for Sony. In August last year, the Japanese manufacturer boasted of record sales of the PS5. On top of that, we also learned that Sony has already started making money on every unit sold. However, this only applies to the console version with a Blu-ray drive. The sale of the cheapest model – PlayStation 5 Digital is much worse and does not arouse much interest among gamers. In addition, the digital version of the PS5 still does not sell for profit.

Given that the PS5 Pro is aimed at the most demanding gamers, that is, a group of conscious and very specific customers, it is unlikely that Sony will decide to release a model without a Blu-ray drive . We can safely say that this would go against the whole idea behind the new model. This, combined with the disastrous sale of PS5 Digital, makes the creation of the PS5 Pro Digital Edition seem highly unlikely .

Summary

The PlayStation 5 Pro appears to be “confirmed”. Experience with PS4 Pro has shown that consoles improved within one generation are an excellent solution. Unfortunately, problems with the availability of the PS5 base model, the pandemic, and a shortage of semiconductors mean that we’ll have to wait a little longer for the model to launch with the Note “Pro”.

Update 1 – In 2022 and 2023, the market will be saturated with next-generation consoles. Speeding up the launch of PS5 Slim and PS5 Pro?

The first year of the new generation of consoles on the market is behind us. The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S both perform very well, but there is no denying that hardware availability is still a huge problem. Interesting information about the future of consoles has been revealed to us by Ms. Lisa Su – CEO of AMD. According to her , 2022 will belong to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S. Apparently, the worst is behind the two producers and soon the production of integrated circuits and components will allow both Sony and Microsoft to “flood” the market with their devices.

Most importantly, we will see improvement in the coming months. This means that the opportunity to buy a “naked” PS5 console at the recommended price increases, without having to look for the best gram kits and accessories that reign in Polish stores. Lisa Su also revealed that in the year 2023, the new generation will mark the peak of its growth . What then? Well, this would be the perfect time to update your portfolio.

We are still increasing production. We expect 2022 to be another year of solid growth for consoles. If you look at a typical cycle, the peak period is usually in the fourth year. So you can expect 2023 to be the year of the biggest growth – Lisa Su, CEO of AMD

It’s still pretty early for the PlayStation 6, but the PS5 Pro seems to be the perfect candidate. Sony will need a new “flagship” that will be able to maintain peak PlayStation 5 sales. If Ms. Lisa Su’s expectations come true, then the premiere of the new PS5 model is likely to be more and more at the end of 2023 .

Update 2 – Sony is sending mysterious packages. PS5 Pro goes to developers first?

Derek Strickland, a journalist from Tweaktown, found the information interesting. Find out that Sony has made some pretty interesting shipments in recent months. First , thousands of mystery development groups made their way to Oakland, California. Then the European headquarters of the Japanese company in London sent other “packages” of equipment to Norfolk, Virginia, with a total defect of nearly 700 kilograms.

According to information from national trade books obtained by Derek Strickland, from October 2021 to January 2022, Sony shipped approximately 2,374 cartons of development kits with a defect total of 23.88 tons. Admittedly, there is a lot of equipment. What the mysterious shipments might contain. There are several options.

Someone assumes that these are PS5 mods designed specifically for game developers . However, this theory has some shortcomings because most developers in the US have had their PS5 consoles for a long time. Even if more is needed, not so much. They will most likely be PSVR2 or PS5 Pro development kits , or even both. Where do these assumptions come from?

Sony recently discovered all the secrets of the PSVR2 and we have already learned both the detailed specifications and the appearance of the new VR glasses. So far, it has been proposed to go on sale at the end of 2022, but the latest information indicates that the first presentation of PlayStation VR2 will take place only in 2023 . It is worth noting that this will be the third year of the PS5 on the market, and thus the perfect time to introduce the new console to the market . Especially since the PlayStation 4 and PS4 Pro version was exactly the same time period. Could early-stage developers actually have the opportunity to test the new and improved Sony console? This cannot be ruled out.

Update 3 – PS5 Pro launching in late 2023 or early 2024? We got to know new information about the console

It’s time for the next and final amount of rumors and speculation around the PlayStation 5 Pro. This time around, a detailed report on Sony’s new console has been given by the editors of RedGamingTech. According to them, the Japanese manufacturer wants to make PS5 Pro the most powerful console on the market . The performance of the device should be at least twice what the PlayStation 5 currently offers . Moreover, the PS5 Pro will allow us to comfortably use ray tracing technology, which in the case of the standard version of the console is only an interesting addition, and not the main function. Sony’s new console is likely to be created in a 4nm or 5nm process technology from TSMC.

RedGamingTech also confirms our previous assumptions and the PS5 Pro is designed to make the best use of PlayStation VR2 . Console prototypes are said to be ready, perhaps even for early adopters. You can read about the mysterious packages sent by Sony above. The PS5 Pro’s increased performance is to allow for comfortable gaming not only in 4K, but even in 8K.

According to the report, the PlayStation 5 Pro is expected to hit the market in late 2023 or early 2024 . Interestingly, the journalists of the WCCFTech website have found similar information, they also claimed that the premiere of the PS5 Pro will take place in the years 2023 – 2024. Perhaps we will have to wait until the first quarter of next year for the first official information about the console.

That’s all we know about the PS5 Pro for now. However, you can be sure that as soon as we have more information about the new Sony console, we will let you know right away.
