What is ROM?

What is ROM?

ROM is a non-volatile memory. This means that it is a memory device or storage medium that stores information permanently.

The form of the full ROM is “ Read only memory and I told you about this in the previous article, it is part of the computer’s primary memory. So let me remind you a little more, there are two types of memory in the computer, primary and secondary, and basic memory is of two types, one of which is memory Random access and the other ROM.

His full name Read the memory only from its name itself, you should know that we can simply read this memory. It has a firmware (or we can say permanent memory), we can’t easily change this software, the correct answer is when you buy a computer, in it. BIOS program already live.

It helps to operate the system and thus connects the BOIS computer to the operating system.

So this BIOS is already in the new computer and the memory it’s in is called ROM which is an example. The FIRMWARE program which is included with the device. And the software in the firmware is also in the ROM chip.

This memory is also called non-volatile memory. This memory was only created when computers were manufactured. ROM is not only used in computer or mobile phone, we can use it in some other electronic devices as well.

As in washing machine, microwave oven, TV, AC, lift, etc. So as technology changes, ROMs also have different types. We will talk about these additional types of ROM in Hindi.

Features of ROM

Let’s now take a look at the ROM features.
• ROM is permanent memory or permanent memory.
• In this are stored instructions for all the basic functions of the computer.
• ROM is readable only. Meaning that the information contained in it can only be read.
• Speaking of price, ROM is cheaper than RAM.
• ROM uses very little power, while being very reliable.

ROM TYPES – ROM TYPES

There are some words in this article such as data, instructions and software all mean the same thing, not to be confused as the term. programmer ” This means that there are many commands that perform a task, as the program does.

Likewise, the program does the work of booting the computer here, its name is Firmware which is in the ROM. By the way, 4 types of ROM are listed below and their information is also present.

  1. MROM (read-only cache)
  2. Concert (programmable ROM)
  3. EEPROM (Erasable and Programmable Read-Only Memory)
  4. EEPROM (Electrically Erasable, Programmable Read-Only Memory)

1.Masked read-only memory

This is the first ROM, it is not used at all in today’s world. This is read only for hard wired devices. The pre-programmed instruction and data store has been done in advance. This type of memory was very expensive. At that time, the MROM would not be found anywhere.

2. Programmable read-only memory

This is a ROM so we can only change it once. The change here means to put some new software in the PROM and it is also called an update. Once updated, no one can update it again.

The user buys a blank PROM and then he can enter the instructions he wants to put in it (instructions mean there are some commands that do some work).

In this memory there are small fuses, instructions are entered into them through programming. Once programmed, it cannot be erased again.

3. Erasable and programmable ROM

There is another type of ROM, the specialty of which is that we can also erase and reprogram it. The way to erase this memory is completely different, this memory is passed with Ultra Violet Light for 40 minutes, then this memory is empty.

Let us know in a little more detail to make this work. EEPROM ‘ eraser is also used. While programming, (programming means updating or introducing some new software) the Charge is put inside, which is kept for more than 10 years because there is no way to take the Charge out. That’s why it stays inside that memory.

To erase this charge (instructions) ultraviolet light is passed through a quartz crystal window (cover). Due to the effect of this light, all Charge Erase operations are performed. This was some info about the Erasable and Programmable ROM.

4. Electrically erasable and programmable ROM

Due to the change in technology, the ROM also needed to be changed again and again, which is why this memory was used. Its specialty is that we can erase it 10,000 times and program it and that’s it. 4 to 10 milliseconds inside we can also erase and program.

We can specify any memory location in it and we can erase it and program the same thing. We don’t have any need to dump the entire slide. Because of this feature, EEPROM is easy but slow.

So now you know what is ROM and types of ROM in Hindi now know about their benefits.

How does ROM work?

When we turn on the computer, there is not much difference between your computer and a rock. Meaning that the computing power of both is the same.

That’s why something is needed that should be inside your computer that should tell it that other devices like keyboard, mouse, and drive are all connected to it.

This is called in general. BIOS and Basic Input Output System Although your computer may not be very smart at first, these BIOS chips in the computer help the computer access all the startup procedures stored in the drive, and the RAM in it Also. Use it for all types of accounts.

The BIOS is stored on a ROM chip, otherwise how would a computer find out what other hardware devices are associated with it.

Like random access memory (RAM), ROM chips also contain grids of columns and rows. But where these columns and rows intersect, they are fundamentally different in these ROM chips compared to RAM chips.

Where RAM transistors are used to turn a capacitor on or off, to access it at the junction, while ROM uses diodes to connect these lines if its value is 1. Whereas if its value is 0, the lines are not connected at all.

The ROM chip is absolutely essential to be programmed perfectly in order to function properly and it is also important to have complete data with it when building the chip. This is because you cannot reprogram or rewrite a standard ROM chip.

If something goes wrong or you have to update any data, you have to change the ROM or create a new one. Therefore, it is very difficult to create the original template for ROM Chip, while a lot of trial and error is done in it.

ROM advantages

Now you know, what are the benefits of ROM, so we hope that all the above information was understood.

  • Non-volatile nature which keeps the program permanently.
  • Its data does not change automatically, the data only changes by changing it.
  • Those are cheaper than RAM it happens.
  • More reliable than RAM. Because the data stays in RAM as long as there is a power source.
  • It is stable and repeats over and over again refreshes no need to do this.
  • In this, the data is entered very carefully, and we cannot change it again and again.

This was some information Advantages of ROM in Hindi

My final verdict

So friends info today what ROM is you must have liked it very much, hope you find this info useful to you. By the way, if you are a student, this information will be most useful to you. If you want to know about RAM, you can also read my second article.

There are some jargon in this, which must be hard to understand if you’re not technical, but still, if you want to ask any question, definitely write in the comment box below.
