Starlink Premium offers high bandwidth, but the price is impressive
Starlink has introduced a new satellite Internet access service – Starlink Premium. The service is accompanied by a next-generation antenna, thanks to which it offers, compared to the previous standard version, much higher data transfer speed and lower delays.
Data can be downloaded at a speed of up to 500 MB / s, and delays have been reduced by 20-40 ms. Elon Musk, founder and CEO of SpaceX, to which Starlink belongs, wrote on Twitter that the new antenna has twice the surface area of a standard antenna and a much wider scanning angle, thanks to which the service is able to meet the expectations of even the most demanding users regardless of the prevailing weather conditions (such as clouds, precipitation, or snowfall).
However, you have to pay a high price for the increased bandwidth, lower latency, and priority support. The hardware that comes with Starlink Premium costs $2,500. However, the monthly amount of the service fee is $500. And it must be remembered that the user pays five times less for the standard version (exactly $ 99). Therefore, it seems unlikely that the new service will be successful. It will likely only be requested by those with really high bandwidth-demanding applications.

Analysts note that satellite Internet services have been struggling to achieve the same level of profitability for some time as their wireless terrestrial counterparts. Starlink Premium is certainly a step in the right direction, but the cost may turn off many, except for the most ardent tech enthusiast, or the most affluent customers. Already interested parties can book the service on the company’s website with a $500 deposit. The company expects to begin shipping DIY kits in the second quarter of 2022.
