Google and Spotify have reached an agreement on an alternative payment method that Google Play will accept

Both companies announced yesterday that the next version of Spotify app published on Google Play Store will allow its users to register and pay for it directly to its owner i.e. Spotify.

The move is one of the biggest concessions to date for the leading mobile app store, which has so far refused to let it be omitted when apps are billed. The two companies’ agreement is sure to put a lot of pressure on another store owner that offers mobile apps, like Apple . The company is strongly opposed to its App Store billing process by a third party.

Currently, users who have downloaded Spotify app from Google Play Store will have the option to pay using Spotify payment system or Google Play Billing. The standard payment form offered by Google Play will still be available. For the first time, these two options will work side by side in a single app.

This will give each user the freedom to sign up and make purchases with the chosen payment option directly in the Spotify app. The agreement states that Spotify will be able to communicate with users without any problems, for example in connection with the company’s premium subscription service, or to promote discounts and advertise promotions.

Spotify and Google will continue to work together in the coming months to improve this entirely new financial environment. This will be a particularly valuable experience for Google, which will likely offer such a fee model for apps that other companies put in its store in the future. So it can be said that it is an experimental project in its own way.
