Ukraine was given the official role as a “contributor” to the centre, known as the Collaborative Cyber Defense Center of Excellence (CCDCOE), by the 27-member steering committee. The log portal was the first to write about the case.

The nomination is approved as officials in Kyiv and Washington prepare for Russian cyberattacks in connection with the escalation of hostilities.

“Having Ukraine at the center will increase knowledge sharing on cybersecurity between Ukraine and CCDCOE member states,” Colonel Jack Tarin, director of the foundation, wrote in a statement.

He added that Ukraine could also provide “valuable first-hand knowledge to many adversaries in the cyber domain that could be used for research, exercises and training,” referring to Ukraine’s recent past as a testing ground for Russian attacks.

Ukraine last year requested the status of a cooperative participant from a center located in Tallinn, Estonia, but was refused. The Center’s website lists countries outside the Alliance as cooperating participants: Austria, Switzerland, Sweden and Finland.

“Capacity and knowledge come from experience, and Ukraine certainly has valuable experience from past cyberattacks that could bring significant value to NATO’s CCDCOE,” said Estonian Defense Minister Kali Lanet. He added that his country – which has also become a target of malicious actions by Russia, including week-long denial of service attacks on Estonia’s public and private sector enterprises in 2007 – has been Ukraine’s “long-term partner in strengthening cybersecurity and resilience capabilities. cybernetic.. We welcome the decision of the CCDCOE members to accept Ukraine’s membership.”
