Microsoft Defender for Endpoint is expanding to the mobile devices area. The company revealed that its Enterprise Endpoint Security Antivirus offering will also provide threat and vulnerability management for Android and iOS.
Microsoft Defender for Endpoint will work with all major platforms for workstations and servers as well as mobile devices, protecting them from security vulnerabilities, malware or ransomware.

“Microsoft Defender for Endpoint Threat and Vulnerability Management continuously monitors and identifies affected devices, assesses relevant environmental threats, and provides intelligent prioritization and integrated workflows to seamlessly address vulnerabilities,” the company said in its announcement.
Companies will now have access to new vulnerability assessment capabilities, such as assessing vulnerabilities in an Android OS version on embedded Android devices.
For Android Enterprise mobile devices with a work profile, only apps installed in the work profile will be supported. For other BYOD modes, app vulnerability assessment will not be available by default.

Instead, it’s a feature that administrators can activate using Microsoft Endpoint Manager.
For iOS, administrators can expect to assess vulnerabilities in the iOS version on the iOS/iPadOS devices in use. When it comes to assessing the vulnerability of individual apps on iOS devices, Microsoft says they are not part of this release and the feature will be added at a later time.
Microsoft first started expanding supported platforms for Microsoft Defender for Endpoint last year when it added macOS. Last summer, Linux was added as well.
