Amazon is suing two websites, AppSally and Rebatest, which – the company claims – have used their networks of more than 900,000 users to post fake comments.

Amazon says the sites in question “act as fake review brokers”. In the case of AppSally, the site allows sellers to purchase reviews on Amazon for as little as $20. On the other hand, Rebatest requires interested users to buy the product from Amazon first and then pay for the review (there are of course some limitations here).

“The lawsuits are designed to shut down two major brokers dealing with fake reviews. They are AppSally and Rebatest. The sites help mislead buyers while encouraging their members to post fake reviews on stores like Amazon, eBay, Walmart, and Etsy.” the message.

In total, the sites can reach more than 900,000. Willing to write fake opinions. Rebatest says that its users (818,000 people) have used the site to save $11 million. At the same time, Amazon reviewed Rebatest and announced that the site only pays 5-star review authors, and only when their reviews are actually published and approved by companies that often sell low-quality products.

Meanwhile, on AppSally, merchants are allegedly sending empty boxes to users who want to write fake reviews. They do this to trick Amazon systems into showing that they are authorized users who have actually purchased the product. To make reviews appear more reliable, AppSally uploads product images that you can include next to reviews.

“We are preventing millions of suspicious reviews from appearing on our store, and these lawsuits are directed directly to the source,” said Dharmesh Mehta, Amazon Vice President of Customer Trust. He added that Amazon receives more than 30 million comments and opinions every week.

AppSally and Rebatest have yet to respond to the lawsuit and have not commented on media reports.
